Familiarization Tours

The San Diego Professional Tour Guide Association offers familiarization (FAM) tours regularly to our members, which are an invaluable resource for helping our member guides become experts in the San Diego region.

Guests are welcome on select tours; however, additional charges may apply, and we also prefer that all guests are employed in the tourism industry.

For more information and to make reservations, please click here. We are always looking for good FAM ideas from our members!

Most Recent Fam – MONDAY, JUNE 11, 2018
This month our FAM trip will include a workshop on “How to Present a Guided Tour”. Not only will we be enjoying some of San Diego’s most beautiful coastline and sights but we will be hearing from a variety of experienced guides. There will be three opportunities during the FAM to choose from, you can do one or all.

A – KAYAK TOUR 9:30-11:00 AM

Your morning could begin with a one hour ocean kayak tour of the La Jolla Caves directed by a trained guide of the La Jolla Kayak Tour company. This will begin at 9:30 AM departing and returning from La Jolla Shores. The charge will be $30 per person. (Limited Kayaks) Click on this link to see more details of what to expect on this exciting tour. La Jolla Kayak Ocean Cave Tour

Your next option would be to join us at 11:30 AM for patio lunch at Urban Plates Restaurant in La Jolla located near UCSD. This is a healthy and reasonably priced restaurant preferred by many of the UCSD students. Here we will have a 15 minute presentation during lunch by one of our more experienced members on the “Basics of Giving a Good Tour” and an opportunity for you to network with other experienced guides. Your final option is to join us at 12:30 PM for a guided bus and walking tour through the highlights of La Jolla. Several experienced guides along the way will take turns demonstrating their style of presenting a guided tour. The charge for this will be $15 per person. (limited seating) Our destinations: Torrey Pines Glider Port, La Jolla Cove, Children’s Cove, Village of La Jolla, Mt Soledad

We will return back to the Urban Plates parking lot by 3 PM, in time to beat the business traffic rush. Hope you can make it to one or more of these options.
